John Kinney
John A. Kinney is a partner with Kinney Mason, P.C., L.L.O. a boutique litigation and small business law firm that offers legal services to individual and business clients in Omaha, Nebraska (www.kinneymason.com).
John attended Boston College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree (cum laude) in 1989 (English and Political Science). He attended DePaul University College of Law (Chicago, Illinois) where he obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1994. Mr. Kinney has been the principal litigator in both federal and state courts, including cases involving GPS surveillance and violations of the Wiretap Act. He has represented individual clients in divorces, civil litigation, personal injury cases, privacy cases, contract disputes and commercial law matters.
Mr. Kinney has been a fellow with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 2007 and has focused his practice on divorce and family law. He is past Chairman of the Family Law Section of the Nebraska State Bar Association. He has published articles on property division, child support and custody in the Nebraska Lawyer. He presented on the topic of cell phone privacy during the Chicago national meeting of the AAML in 2017 and later to the Oregon Family Law Bar in 2018.
Before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Kinney worked as a law clerk in the Cook County (Chicago) State’s Attorney’s Office, where he personally tried felony drug cases under supervision by senior attorneys. He also was employed by MCI Telecommunications in Chicago, researching state administrative law for the regulatory division of the corporation. Prior to law school, Mr. Kinney was a legislative assistant for the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Finance in Washington, D.C., where he prepared legislative summaries and bill report language. After graduating from Boston College, Mr. Kinney spent one year as a volunteer teacher and coach at Mt. Michael High School in Elkhorn, Nebraska, teaching American government and English.
